Postdoc Opportunity
posted July 2022
We are looking for a colleague who is driven by scientific curiosity and looking to uplevel their career in the research areas of neuroscience > astrocyte biology > traumatic brain injury. You don’t have to know it all, your expertise in one of these fields is preferred.
Applications from underrepresented minorities in STEM disciplines and women are strongly encouraged.
Why join our team?
First of all, we love to work as a team! While everyone is in charge of leading projects, we usually work on them together. We discovered a new response of astrocytes to a specific type of brain injury. We are excited about it, the field is excited about it… Now it’s all about figuring out mechanisms that connect the root (blood-brain barrier damage) to long-term consequences (epilepsy and neurodegeneration). There are several exciting research directions that we need your help with.
We’re excellent astrocyte biologists and experts in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). We do imaging (confocal, intravital 2-photon, standard), histology, mouse genetics, TBI models, EEG recording, molecular biology. We would love for your expertise (we’re pretty open) to complement ours. You are open to learning and establishing new techniques that help us answer our questions.
In addition to scientific and technical training, what sets us apart are training opportunities that grow your leadership, communication, and management skills. We care about your future success and will prepare you for the next career step, no matter what that looks like.
We value leadership, growth-oriented individuals, creativity, personal fulfillment, trust, integrity, fun. If this speaks to you, check out our website robelastrolab.com and reach out to Stefanie Robel, srobel [at] uab.edu with your CV and a one-page essay about your values and interest in joining the team.
